Chris Pr Mar 20, 2020:
More like bearing plate... "An exception to the use of the term plate for a large, load-bearing timber in a wall is the bressummer, a timber supporting a wall over a wall opening (see also: lintel)."
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wall_plate

Also, the term "plate" has no binding connotation to "steel plate"...or any other metal... :)

chris collister Mar 19, 2020:
Summer is here?? See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bressummer for perfect clarification of this term (with thanks to the omniscient Alex G). He also suggests "bearing pad" or "concrete bearing pad", eg "Armtec's Bin-Wall bridge abutment is a crib-type abutment
with a compacted granular material and a CONCRETE BEARING PAD to support the bridge super-structure and traffic loadings..."
chris collister Mar 16, 2020:
Load spreader?

similar question https://theconstructor.org/structural-engg/shear-key-constru...

Some would say load bearing plate, some time ago there was question in Norwegian, beton, term Shear Key, which in concrete is not automotive term, ....to support a bearin weight wall, a steel plate with feet, etc is imbedded in concrete, idea is to distribute the weight throgh the attacements, rods, (But as pointed out by others, the exact term is......?)

quite close to the situation described in the ST.

L'entreprise de charpente/couverture a omis de réaliser ou de faire réaliser des sommiers de répartition béton armé sous les poutres bois mises en place par ses soins
=
all the weight of the roof is pressing on just few bricks (creating te risk that these bricks or the whole wall could be damaged) instead of the weight of the roof being spread on a bigger contact surface by using "sommiers de répartition béton armé"

reinforcement plate

Weight bearing imbedded steel plate in concrete to distribute the weight, The beams rest on the wall, and steel plates, or steel mesh, steel rods, combinations of these distribute the weight and keep the concrete from damage caused by the heavy load.

https://engineering.stackexchange.com/questions/10224/why-wo...
Example sentence:

Steel reinforcement plates are placed in the concrete as a bearing surface for the beams to rest on.forcemtent.

Sheer keys are a closely related item to steel plates. According to size of the structure.

Peer comment(s):

neutral Daryo : close, but in this particular instance the "support" is made of reinforced concrete, not in form of a steel plate.

[load] distribution beam

The only other term I could come up with was "bearing plate"....

neutral Tony M : I have very grave doubts: 'répartition' is not at all the same as EN 'partition', which is 'cloison' in FR; and we don't tend to use 'chain' in EN where 'chaînage' is used in FR. Your refs. don't actually support your suggestion.

disagree Daryo : the ST is about "partition des efforts" on the contact with structural/load bearing walls. // "partitions" are an irrelevant side-show in this story.
