English term

stipple

English to French Other Mechanics / Mech Engineering
Hi all,

I can't find the meaning here...

Restart the harvester by turning off the main switch and wait approximately 1 minute before turning it on again.
Perform sensor cleaning with the aid of a stipple.
Refer to the photo 117193-2 for example of cleaning point.

Merci

@ Asker Surely a 'stipple' is a short stiff brush, isn't it? The sort of thing used to produce a 'stippled' paint finish, and often when stencilling

English term (edited): stipple (brush)
Selected

brosse à mocheter / à pocher

On the assumption it is indeed a stipple brush (also: stippler), then here are 2 terms suggested by GDT — the second one is in fact a 'terme associé'

A short, stubby, stiff brush might indeed be suitable for cleaning a sensor of some kind.

Here's one larger kind of stipple brush, which might be more suited to this rather 'industrial' application:

Maybe — but no more so than the source text! We have to assume writer used the term for a very good reason, in order to be perfectly specific about the type of brush required.

pointeau/poinçon/stilet

The photo provided would have helped
Peer comment(s):

neutral Tony M : I'd be interested to know how you arrive at this from the EN source term?

brosse

Suggestion
pour "stipple brush"

ou pinceau
Peer comment(s):

neutral Tony M : Yes, but it is a very special kind of 'brush' / But it's not just ANY kind of paintbrush: have you seen what these actually look like?
