Is Social Security Treasury a thing?

Discussion

AllegroTrans Sep 16, 2022:
Matthias Seems to have lost interest
neilmac Sep 9, 2022:
@Allegro When people wonder or ask if something is "a thing", they're asking whether it exists as a concept or, in this case, if this is what we commonly call it. In the UK, we just tend to say 'Social Security' and leave it at that. The SS probably does have a Treasury department/division/unit, but its official designation may be something else. I wouldn't translate it as 'fund' either.
AllegroTrans Sep 8, 2022:
Asker I don't know what you mean by "a thing" - a Treasury is, traditionally, a place where money and valuables are stored. In modern terms, it's a money and finance-handling office or department of a business or of the State,
Luis M. Sosa Sep 8, 2022:
Agree with Allegro's post, and asker seems to be out of reach.
philgoddard Sep 8, 2022:
It's either Spain or the Dominican Republic.
AllegroTrans Sep 8, 2022:
Barbara "Tesoria" doesn't mean "fund". It is the Social Security Treasury, i.e. the management division. department etc. responsible for such things as making Social Security payments, with regional offices throughout the country (which I think is Spain). And adding "Trust" (even in brackets) is quite wrong. Social Security is a state scheme and is not set up in the form of a trust. It doesn't matter what you call it in the US.
AllegroTrans Sep 8, 2022:
Matthias IMPORTANT: which country?
Barbara Cochran, MFA Sep 8, 2022:
Pretty Much A Univeral Term, It Seems By going in some of the UK government websites, I at least discovered that they use the umbrella term, "social security", to cover all of the various NIS schemes that UK citizens can draw benefits from, for whatever reason that makes them eligible. It also seems that there is some kind of agreement between the US and the UK regarding "social security".

Social Security (Trust) Fund

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_Security_Trust_Fund

I put "Trust" in parentheses because, even though it might have actually been more like a trust fund after its initial inception, those who have studied how it has been managed, more or less, in recent years, think of it more as a huge Ponzi scheme. The taxes that one supposedly pays into the Social Security system, on the basis of their income from all of their covered working years, instead of going into a "lockbox" for retirees, is funneled into various other government programs that it wants to keep solvent, perhaps more than they want to keep Social Security solvent.

Just a reminder: this is the official name for it in the US.

BTW, to reflect part of what appears in your posted term, Social Security benefits, in the United States, are paid directly to beneficiaries' accounts by the U.S Department of the Treasury.

Benefits are paid with "treasury funds".

neutral AllegroTrans : You have not considered the usual meaning of "tesoreria"; look at this: https://www.seg-social.es/wps/portal/wss/internet/Conocenos/... Also as we don't know which country this is from your confidence is OTT

The page of the link you have posted has the word "Warning" listed on it, several tines, up and down the page. Also, you seem to have failed to read all the comments I have posted on this page. Yes, I say a "5".
neutral Luis M. Sosa : Question does suggest it's a unit of the Social Security System, whatever the source country is.

Yes, I think i have explained all of that, pretty much. And anyway, here in the US, we talk about the "treasury Fund", which is used synonymouslly with "department of the treasury", which pays out whatever gov. funds, such as Soc. Sec., to citizens.

Social Security Treasury Department/Unit/Section etc.

Clearly it is the finance-handling wing of the Social Security
Not to be confused wuth THE Treasury, which in most countries refers to the central state finance department
