Same retranslated memoir of WWI fighter, sports fans! Thanks for all your hel!
He is describing a cold reception back in New Zealand because of, he suspects, professional rivalry

En el cuerpo mayor de los cuarteles generales, donde los viejos oficiales no se acercaban a abrazar uno de los viejos administradores, que con sus ideas que acumuló en el extranjero podía perturbar la paz y seguridad de sus trabajos.

English translation:the larger unit
Explanation:
It's about the larger unit of army barracks, where the elder officials don't approach, since, with the ideas they've collected from abroad, they could disturb the peace.

(SP: Es una unidad de un edificio de cuarteles para un ejército, adonde no se acercan los oficiales mayores de edad. Creen que, con las ideas que han recogido del extranjero pueden romper la paz.)

main (amenity) hub

Explanation:
... in the main hub of the barracks generally...

I'm unsure where the sports part fits in, unless the WWi 'fighter' was also a boxer, but have included amenity to factor in such an eventuality.

My first thought had actually been an Officers' Mess (canteen & recreation), but I can't see how an into-Spanish translator could have got there,

Example sentence(s):
  • A £150 million project to turn Beacon Barracks into a major hub for the UK's armed forces has marked 2 significant construction milestones.

main body

Explanation:
The main body of the general headquarters.

Continuing with my policy of being as literal with the back translation as the translator was with the original. Nobody is going to challenge "main body" as a translation of "cuerpo mayor" and there is no justification for any alternative proposal.
