Spanish term or phrase: TFM
SPAIN. What do we call this in English? I'd be interested in answers from both sides of the pond (i.e., US and UK English).

"TFM significa Trabajo Fin de Máster. El Trabajo Fin de Máster (TFM) consiste en la elaboración de una investigación bajo la dirección de un tutor de la Universidad."

A capstone course, also known as a synthesis and capstone project, senior synthesis, capstone unit, synthesis seminar, synthesis project, capstone module, capstone project, capstone subject, capstone and research project, synthesis and research project, a capstone experience, or a senior seminar serves as the culminating and usually integrative praxis experience of an educational program mostly found in American-style pedagogy.

In the end I'm using "Final Master's Project/FMP", which seems to be the preferred form used by Spanish universities. Thanks to everyone for helping on this one.

neutral  Helen Unger Clark (X): I'm not 100% sure I agree. I think SNHU explains the difference between a capstone & a thesis well here: https://www.snhu.edu/about-us/newsroom/education/what-is-a-c... A TFM tends to be longer than a capstone.

-> Both are often used interchangeably, and it really all depends on the program. Capstones are usually more applied in nature, while theses are more research-oriented.

master's thesis

Explanation:

SNHU's explanation of the difference between a capstone project and a master's thesis:

"What is the Difference Between a Thesis and a Capstone Project?
Dr. Thomas MacCarty

A capstone is similar to a thesis in that the starting point involves strengths that one needs for a thesis or dissertation work. A student needs to think about the skeletal structure of research and form their theory, hypothesis, and problem statement.

'While a capstone is certainly a scholarly piece of work and does share some aspects of a thesis,' said MacCarty. 'The time and detail that is required of a master’s thesis is greater.'

A capstone paper may be 25 pages, where a thesis could be 100 or more, and is a more demanding research paper. If an undergraduate student chooses to further their education and enter into a doctoral program, the capstone project could be an invaluable tool in preparing for a thesis."

I'd argue that master's thesis is a more accurate translation of the work done in a TFM.
I looked at the proposed structure in subsection 2.2.1 https://www.unk.edu/academics/gradstudies/admissions/grad-fi... and it follows the general structure I had to follow for my Spanish TFM.
