Italiano term

cassa

Da Italiano a Inglese Tecnico/Meccanico Materiali (Plastica, Ceramica ecc.)
Dear folks, please would anyone know the term in English for this?
It is in the context of measurement of tiles.
I attach an image and here is an example of text where the word occurs in the document:

"La cassa è definita come la differenza tra il valore massimo e il valore minimo delle misure di ingombro.
Il calcolo della cassa è identico a quello effettuato sugli strumenti attualmente usati, e cioè:
♦ se la piastrella è quadrata, la cassa è la differenza tra il lato più corto e quello più lungo
♦ se la piastrella è rettangolare si hanno due valori distinti di cassa per H e W (considerando i lati
BC-AD e DC-AB). In questo caso si possono impostare valori indipendenti di soglia."

Any suggestions much appreciated!

That's very helpful, thank you Tomasso!

manufacturing tolerance, https://www.tilewarehouse.co.uk/help-advice/what-are-tile-to... How are tile tolerances calculated?
Tile tolerances are calculated using the ‘working size’ of the tile and not the ‘nominal size’. The nominal size (what is generally displayed in the product description) is the size of the tile mould, whilst the working size is the size of the tile specified for production to which the actual size conforms within permissible tolerances. For example, a 30 x 60cm tile will have a nominal size of 30 x 60cm but it’s working size (or calibre) could differ and be 29.5 x 60.5cm.
More context, picture seems part of some process....Cassa has many meanings, Working parameters, minimum size of tile for recutting? work pattern, allowable variation of size?

Thank you anyway Marco!

To asker I think I understand the concept, but I do not know the English word for "cassa". It seems to indicate a range of dimensions within a lot, but the translation escapes me.

Hi Marco, yes I think there is a machine that cuts along the sides to make the sides of the tiles uniform. I don't suppose you know a term in English I could use for "cassa"?

Sides of a square I have a problem with: "se la piastrella è quadrata, la cassa è la differenza tra il lato più corto e quello più lungo"
The sides of a square are all the same; there are no longer or shorter sides. What am I missing?
I suppose it could mean that the tiles are not all of the same size and the "cassa" is the difference between the sides of the largest and smallest tiles.
