Does anyone know what the difference is between "Optativo" and "Libre eleccion"? (Optional/free choice??)

Options / Electives
For graduation purposes you have to chooose one or another option; for example, in social sciences, one subject or another. An elective is additional coursework entirely up to you.

The terminology I have chosen is the appropriate terminology in the US educational system. I am not sure it is applicable elsewhere.

In other words they ignore the free choice.
Seems tautological, as if they were just spelling it out. I don't think there's any difference.
I think they are referring to one and the same thing.

: ctuI studied at the University of Sevile and I used to have "asignaturas optativas", that is optional modules, and "asignaturas de libre configuración or libre elección" which you can chose from the program of ANY degree, not necessarily yours.
