moult Explanation: "In nature moulting occurs after the breeding season when wild birds lose a proportion of their feathers which then regrow. Battery hens, after a year of egg laying, also moult. During this time they stop laying and afterwards they lay less eggs. As an economic measure battery hens are often slaughtered before the moult, but a shorter moulting period can be induced in order to increase production in the second year of laying. The most common method of inducing a "forced moult" is to withhold food and water." "Caged hens may be deprived of food and water. Intensive farmers induce hens to moult simultaneously, shorten the time of moulting and attempt to raise production in the second year of laying. These practices may mean withholding water for up to 24 hours and withholding food for up to 48 hours." Reference: http://www.melbourne.net/animals_australia/facts/batthens.ht... moulting Explanation: Hola. O mudas forzadas de gallinas. Parece que eso induce a poner más huevos. Lo pensaré la próxima vez que vaya al barbero...Mira: " AnimalAdvocacy Messages :Message 557 of 2168 - Forced moulting is a major cause of Salmonella poisoning because prolonged food deprivation wrecks the hen's immune system, which causes disease." Go organic or go Titanic. Luck :-) Reference: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/AnimalAdvocacy/message/557 |
