English term

Chinese Wall

English to Arabic Bus/Financial Investment / Securities
The ethical (not physical) barrier between different divisions of a financial (or other) institution to avoid conflict of interest. A Chinese Wall is said to exist, for example, between the corporate-advisory area and the brokering department to separate those giving corporate advice on takeovers from those advising clients about buying shares. The "wall" is thrown up to prevent leaks of corporate inside information, which could influence the advice given to clients making investments, and allow staff to take advantage of facts that are not yet known to the general public.
Maintaining client confidentiality is crucial to any firm, but particularly large multi-service businesses. Where firms are providing a wide range of services, clients must be able to trust that information about themselves will not be exploited for the benefit of other clients with different interests. And that means clients must be able to trust in Chinese Walls. Some Wall Street scandals in recent years, however, have made some people doubt the effectiveness of Chinese Walls, as well placed executives of respectable firms have traded illegally on inside information for their own benefit

Discussion

Hussein Mansour (asker) Jan 21, 2009:
Not just a wall or barrier A Chinese wall is a system (that may consist of rules, physical separation, software, etc.) designed to prevent confidential information leaking from one department of a financial institution to another.

Chinese walls are necessary because financial institutions such as large investment banks have departments that serve clients with conflicting interests, and even clients whose interests conflict with those of other departments of the same bank.

For example, the corporate finance department of an investment bank may know of takeover bids that are being considered, but for the bank's trading or fund management operations to act on this information would constitute insider trading. This makes it necessary that such information is restricted to the departments actually involved, so that other departments can function normally.

The effectiveness of Chinese walls has often been questioned, particularly where the incentives to cooperate are clearly very strong.

It's more like "نظام المحافظة على سرية المعاملات" inside a financial or other istitution.

Do you have any clue?

Chinese Wall in business A term used to describe procedures enforced within a securities firm that separate the firm's departments to restrict access to non-public, material information, in order to avoid the illegal use of inside information.
أرى أنها "إجراءات الحفاظ على السرية" في أي مؤسسة مالية أو غيرها ولذلك ينبغي أن تعبر الترجمة بوضوح عن هذا المعنى

حاجز منيع

Chinese wall
Communication barrier between financiers (investment bankers) and traders. This barrier is erected to prevent the sharing of inside information that bankers are likely to have.

For me, I'll never mention nay thing related to China in this regard.

أظنه والله أعلم أسلوبا مجازيا يعبر عن الفجوة الكبيرة أو التباين الشاسع
