De uitdrukking “path-dependent control” wordt dikwijls in verband met robots gebruikt. In het Nederlands zou je hier misschien over “routeafhankelijke controle” of “routeafhankelijke besturing” kunnen spreken.
Door het opdelen van de ruimte, in gedefinieerde eenheden, wordt het mogelijk om voor de robot een routeafhankelijke route te plannen. Dat wil zeggen, dat bijvoorbeeld door het naar LINKS ontwijken van de eerste, waargenomen, hindernis, de voor de toekomst beschikbare opties anders geworden zijn, dan wanneer, bij de eerste hindernis, gekozen zou zijn geweest voor uitwijken naar RECHTS.

Mijn vermoeden nu is, dat voor het functioneren van de onderhavige tweeplatenkoppelingen een uit de robotindustrie afkomstige technologie wordt toegepast, waarbij een computer de tweeplatenkoppeling controleert mede op grond van gegevens die door de afgelegde route belichaamd worden.
