Europe is unique – and it is fragile. It is fragile because its success depends, more than anything else, on member states’ trust and goodwill to make it work. As such, it is not the place for national posturing. It is not treaties and rules that make Europe work – important though they are (not least for business confidence) – it is the spirit of a unique venture that makes the EU tick.
