English term

falling action

English to French Art/Literary Poetry & Literature
Opposite of "rising action"
I'm just trying to do a more "literary" class for our grade 10, who take French as a 3rd language, so I have asked them what terms they use in their English Lit class to analyze texts and stories...

retombées

Ou retombée de l'action, peut-être ?
Vu le peu de références sur le net, il est probable qu'on utilise plutôt le terme EN en FR.

But I can't shake off the feeling that your 'falling action' is actually FR's 'dénouement'... That's what's right after the climax.

le dénouement

I have never heard of another French word to describe "falling action" as accurately as "dénouement". It refers to the sequence of events following the climax, as in "unknotting" the plot.
