polyglot45 Mar 27, 2014:
le soir ils jouent au casino etc le jour ils peuvent tout aussi bien profiter des plaisirs décadents des piscines.....
Tony M Mar 27, 2014:
daytime It's perhaps worth stopping to consider just why the writer included the notion of 'daytime' — obviously, you wouldn't be sunbathing at night!

I suspect the marketing intention here (and Asker may be able to confirm from the rest of the text) is to highlight the fact that there are not only plenty of things to do at night (well, Las Vegas is famed for its night-life!), but also enjoyable / indulgent / decadent things for you to do during the day as well.

I think any translation needs to be in this sort of spirit, in order to convey just the right nuance of tone that is there in the source text.

Non, "en journée" est clairement redondant !
Peer comment(s):

neutral Tony M : I like the idea, but see two problems: the s/t simply says 'daytime experience' = not necessarily a whole day long! And kind of misses out the (supposed!) marketing value of 'experience', so beloved of American hype merchants these days!

un couché de soleil (particulier)

assez littéraire
Peer comment(s):

disagree Tony M : But the source text has nothing to do with sunset! Are you perhaps misunderstanding 'decadent'?

expérience, sensations de plaisir pendant la journée

idée de luxe
(idealized beauty that existed principally in the imagination - http://www.english.uwosh.edu/roth/Decadence.htm)

Aestheticism (or the Aesthetic Movement) is an art movement supporting the emphasis of aesthetic values more than social-political themes for literature, fine art, music and other arts. [...]
In the 19th century, it was related to other movements such as symbolism or decadence represented in France, or decadentismo represented in Italy, and may be considered the British version of the same style.
The artists [...] of Aesthetic style tended to profess that the Arts should provide refined sensuous pleasure.

In 1893, Arthur Symons turned its negative suggestions into praise by describing Decadence as a "beautiful and interesting disease." As expected, the term started to lable both the artists and their works. A similar phenomenon surrounds the term "Aesthete," which in the 1880s evoked visions of effeminate poets holding various floral displays in characteristic poses (see below), as in the case of Oscar Wilde, who welcomed the label. Aestheticism implies certain attitudes rather than forms of behavior, attitudes associated wtih the concern over aesthetic form and experience divorced from moral judgment.

agree Tony M : I love 'voluptueuse' — though am slightly wary of the other connotations that certainly might have if it were 'voluptuous' in EN ;-)

Peer comment(s):
