The possible problem of losing genetic diversity, especially the loss of many locally-adapted "land races", has been attributed to the consequences of IPRs, in combination with the tendency to improve and propagate only a few selected lines of the main crops using marker-selected breeding and modern biotechnology.

What is land races here? I cannot see it.
