English term or phrase: abbreviation "ss"
Hi, I wonder if someone could help me with this:

I'm translating a form in which a County Clerk certifies that the "Acting County Clerk" who is signing a record has been duly appointed. At the top left hand corner of the Form, it states State of New York, County of New York, ss. Do you know what "ss" stands for?

Many thanks in advance, I.
