French term
trapèze
French to English
Bus/Financial
Advertising / Public Relations
Hi
The context is a trade fair. Exhibitors can put up posters in the host city. One format of these posters (or poster locations) is "trapèze" :
"Nous avons négocié un réseau étendu de trapèzes et de mâts."
Many thanks (URGENT DOC - SPEEDY SUGGESTIONS APPRECIATED!)

Comment: "I failed to find a 100%-certain term and, having visited the fair and seen they type of posters (quickly, while driving!) I went for "trapezoid banner." Thanks to everyone for all your time, I do appreciate it."

: That is not the point. As translators we have the responsibility to get the right translation of the terms we face, instead of being vague. I don't mind being wrong, but let us be professional about it.

Yes, I saw display racks which I thought would be used more inside. Nothing personal, I'm only trying to help. I have that right.

Regardless of your comment above, asker, it would be nice to know what "trapeze" actually is in English, rather than it being left so vague!!

Glad you found what you needed in the end - and your client is right to say "it is no big deal", otherwise we translators would never sleep, now would we ?:-)

Note from asker:
Hi Liz - I'm afraid I don't know what these "trapèze" are, I can only imagine they are some trapezoid structure into which a poster can be inserted. If I get any spare minutes I'll do some more googling. Thanks for all your help so far :-) |
Well I guess in the bigger picture of this particular text it was no big deal. What mattered was to say they had negotiated extra poster space. But you're right to say that it's *always* better to get the spot-on exact term! |

: I see it more as banners etc hanging in the streets leading to the fair. I have seen this many times before. The advertising racks, stands and displays are used inside the show or fair for brouchures etc.

They could be used outside newsagents, or anywhere in the city!!//Provide some EVIDENCE if you please.
