French term or phrase: Atteintes aux investissements
I'm getting tired and need some help.

Context is a company claiming another has infringed its copyright over a design. It is claiming that the other company unduly profited from the investments it made in design etc.

I can't think of how to translate "atteinte" here. "Undermining the investments"?

Any suggestions gratefully received.

Investments undermined
Explanation:
[trying this a second time, now hopefully on the right track]

I think the term to parse is "porter atteinte à," even though only the "atteinte" part is in the title.

porter atteinte à : detract, impair
http://dictionnaire.sensagent.com/porter atteinte à/fr-en/

porter atteinte à : to strike a blow at, to undermine
http://dictionary.reverso.net/french-english/atteinte

Also,, for porter atteinte aux investissements:
On the contrary, the relaxation of IP could undermine investments in such innovative products [...]

material harm done to its investments

Explanation:
Just a suggestion, as it also seems to be appropriate in the context in which it appears just above, "porte atteinte aux resultats", "materially harmed financial results/revenues". So the expression could be something like: "20,000 euros in damages arising from the material harm done to its investments".

neutral  philgoddard: You can reduce the value of investments, but I'm not sure you can "harm" them.

agree  Daryo: maybe "the material harm inflicted to its investments" ? as in [http://www.naftaclaims.com/Disputes/Canada/SDMyers/SDMyersDa...]

two suggestions

Explanation:
i quite like the phraseology you used in your question, "unduly profiting from the company's investment".

Alternatively, you could move away from the idea of investment and say "devaluation of the company's brand". After all, your brand is what you've invested in building a reputation.
