French term

duplicant

French to English Marketing Marketing
I am doing a presentation on lottery-type games. Several of the games are described as 'très duplicants". Does these mean that they can easily be copied (by other games) or that they are addictive, or something else?
Thanks
Chris

Discussion

Bourth (X) Nov 26, 2009:
From two locations I have seen duplicant used to refer to Internet users who log on from an account at home and another at the office. For your gamers that might be the meaning, but I can't see it for the games themselves.

dupliquant perhaps.......
Duplicative players

Thanks Slyvie and Bourth.
The presentation has just thrown in a spanner in the form of 'jouers duplicants'. I don't think it's a typo - it appears too many times.
Bourth (X) Nov 26, 2009:
Very similar to other games? That's the impression I get. Just look at all the "different" scratch card games they offer. The principle is the same - you scratch off the silver gunk and lose your money - but they come in every flavour under the sun, Dédé.

Duplicant? To me it doesn't mean anything in French... might be the bad translation of "duplicate" indeed, but I am not a game specialist. Maybe someone else knows better...

Duplicate/ can be played in duplicate mode / duplicate game players

Should have been "duplicate"

"Duplicate Scrabble is a variant of the board game Scrabble where all the players are faced with the same board and letters at the same time and must play the highest scoring word they can find. Although duplicate is rarely played at competition level in English, it is the most popular form of the game in French and is also played in other languages,

Scrabble, blackjack, poker, tarot, etc.

neutral Emma Paulay : I think this only applies to Scrabble.

Thanks, Emma, I found it for all the games mentioned above, and did not look for others
