  -> Yes, music is certainly a possibility. Not sure which I prefer. "Spatial" might be of use, but since the asker didn't ask, I avoided the obvious problem. ;-))

  -> Perhaps like Tony, I'm troubled by 'in "the" space', but the more ordinary usage "in space" makes one think of Star Trek.
neutral  kashew: I go with Tony's correction to music - and I'm surprised the word "acoustic" isn't in there. Acoustics (I should have added the s!) in the architectural context seems highly pertinent.

recording a musical sound field


Explanation:
the problem with 'live music(al) recording' is that it would apply just as well to a mono recording, whereas the text clearly refers to recording music as an event in a real acoustic space. There are many ways of saying this, a lot of them rather long, but 'sound field' is a standard expression, used for example to name the Calrec soundfield microphone which is probably the best tool available for the activity described.

needless to say, my translation convers 'dans l'espace' as well - the 'a' becomes 'the' if you go on to specify: e.g. recording the musical soundfield of the hall / in the church / etc.

disagree  David Vaughn: Sorry, there's no connection between the terms. I realize that in a dictionary you may find the 2 used as synonyms - but not in this context. See "absorption acoustique".
