writeaway May 12, 2007:
you can't really translate it literally-seems it's part of a Girl Scout song: http://www.girlscouttroop102.com/2001Website/games.htm http://www.gsmusic.com/lyrics/Vol1Lyrics.html

Around the gray hearth, where the fire crackles and laughs ...

Autour de l'âtre gris, oû le feu clair pétille et rit ... = Around the gray hearth, where the fire crackles and laughs ...

I didn't translate "le feu clair" ... but I wouldn't write "clear fire".

Two modifications: 1. It should be "où" and not "oû";
2. Tony suggests "bright fire".
It should now read: Around the gray hearth, where the bright fire crackles and laughs ...
Peer comment(s):

agree Tony M : It's a shame, though, to omit 'clair', what's wrong with 'bright fire'?
