The term "Akonto" comes from "Akontierung"; Dietl/Lorenz gives "payment on account" for "Akontozahlung" (but also see: http://www.proz.com/?sp=gloss/term&id=700555&float=y ).
Maybe "invoice on account" would work in your case. :-)

When I read the word \"akonto\", the word \"advance\" also comes to mind (hope I could help). :-)

: A payment "on account" means exactly that: a downpayment! And of course it's not specific to Switzerland.
