Glossary entry (derived from question below)
German term or phrase:
durch die kurzen Wege
English translation:
short green-to-tee distances
German term
durch die kurzen Wege
Der Platz grenzt an einen Fluss und ist größtenteils auf sandigem Untergrund gebaut, für alle Spielstärken eine interessante Herausforderung und durch die kurzen Wege sehr angenehm zu spielen.
The course is bordered by a river and is mostly built on sandy ground, an interesting challenge for all levels of play and very enjoyable when playing the short fairways.
I'm not really sure that 'playing the short fairways' is an accurate rendition. Are there any golfers out there who can help?

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.
How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:
An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)
A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).
Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.
When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.
* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

short green-to-tee distances
I reckon that's what they're referring to here.
Otherwise it would be a short course. Which would be understood by golfers as being "easy" or less challenging. And that wouldn't be mentioned as a positive aspect in a marketing text.

Thanks very much for this Cilian. I checked with the client and they fancied the more 'specific' translation, so I used your suggestion. And I'm sure your golf must be better than mine - which extends only to the 'Crazy' variety! |

Hi Claire
You have been exceptionally gracious in the way that you have closed this question. Most askers don’t provide any feedback whatsoever, and a large minority only thank the person who provided the chosen answer. This is a textbook example of spreading the feel-good factor. Although ‘compact layout’ may be the solution of choice for future visitors to this page, I can see how ‘short green-to-tee distances’ is perfect for your specific context.
Happy to have contributed and looking forward to helping out on future occasions.
Andrew

Thanks very much for this Andrew. I checked with the client and they fancied the more 'specific' translation, so I'll be storing yours away for future use :) |

: This could work too, especially if the total length is closer to 6000 than to 7000+ yards. Maybe Claire could check the scorecard - should be viewable on their website, if they have a website. I'd go for my answer though if the course is "full-length".

Thanks, Cilian. Your version is an interesting extrapolation. The original German is a bit more basic.
