the one who really matters
"Interlocutore" is one of my most hated words in Italian, simply because there's no easy, natural-sounding translation. In your case, any attempt at a direct translation will sound stilited, so I'd try to get round it altogether, with a phrase such as "the one who really matters" or "the only ones who count".
