traducere cu rimă

Romanian to English Art/Literary Poetry & Literature
Rog să mă ajutaţi să traduc cu rimă următoarele versuri:

Cât trăim pe-acest pământ,
Mai avem un lucru sfânt,
O câmpie, un sat natal,
O clopotniță pe deal.
(N. Dabija)

Mulţumesc anticipat.

Vă mulțumesc pentru propuneri!
Lara Barnett Jan 29, 2015:
@ Sandra & Kenneth - "As long as .." Asker's line. "As long as we live on this land" was Marilor's suggested first line (i.e. the Asker's composition). I only added 3 lines of my own to this after using her suggestion for this first line.
With regard to this also being a "minor issue", the fact that it was followed by "we still", removed the conditional suggestion of the phrase in a "minor" way.
I would just like to add that I have neither meant to offend, nor to argue with you over usage in the English language. I am simply providing information and experience gathered from my own personal history of using the English language to the native level that I do.
Nod in papura So long as on this earth we walk
A spark of holiness we hold
The childhood home and village mill
The wooden steeple on the hill

How about correcting your own "not minor issue": "As long as we live on this land"
Lara Barnett Jan 29, 2015:
@ Sandra & Kenneth Here is the meaning of "as long as" (which is not the same as "For as long as")

"1 provided that <can do as they like as long as they have a B average>"

Lara Barnett Jan 29, 2015:
@ Sandra & Kenneth This is not a minor issue. "As long as + verb phrase" is not the same thing as saying "For as long as...". As i said "As long as" has two meanings, which are very different.
Same phrase as the earlier two entries The problem is that "For as long ..." doesn't scan properly any more and is a minor issue anyway.
:)
Lara Barnett Jan 29, 2015:
@ Sandra & Kenneth "As long as" sounds a little ambiguous due to its phrasing. ("As long as" has two meanings, one being conditional and one indicating a duration of time). You would be better to put "For as long as" to avoid the ambiguity of the conditional sense of the phrase.
Nu cine stie ce rima... As long as on this earth we walk
A spark of holiness we hold
The childhood home and village mill
The wooden steeple on the hill
Lara Barnett Jan 29, 2015:
Does this work? As long as we live on this land
Holiness remains in our hand
with our field, our village home,
A steeple and a hilly slope.
marilors (asker) Jan 29, 2015:
As long as we live on this land,
We still have a holy thing,
A plain, a native village,
A bell tower on the hill.
Lara Barnett Jan 29, 2015:
@ Marilors But you need to start the text and then the answers can find a rhyme. You cannot ask people to translate four lines for you, and then call it one question.
marilors (asker) Jan 29, 2015:
I know LaraBarnett, but I need verses with rhyme!
Lara Barnett Jan 29, 2015:
@ Marilors The questions are normally based on one term per entry. This needs to be broken up, or at least some of your own ideas given.
