French to English

Poetry & Literature
Novel translation. I think there must be some cultural reference I'm missing here...here's the context:

Le Carreau du Temple is known for its second-hand clothes market so maybe here is reply implies hey, we do not have to be aired out/to air out like smelly second-hand clothes

We are not at the \"cheap clothes\" market ? or old clothes
This “cheap clothes” market, covered today by a metal and glass construction was already alive end 18th century and held every day. But it was not always like that...

We are not at the open air market (the square of the temple/temple square)
It's a historical place in Paris.

I think you can put either goodwill or consignment shop, or even second hand clothes store.

: Yes to "goodwill" if the character is really poor, but simply "thrift shop" since she is trying out clothes.

leave it as it is
"Le Carreau du Temple" is historical location, why don't you just leave it as it is? It would be same as translating "Monmartre" to "quartier des artistes" when, as word, it speaks volumes on its own. Le Carreau du Temple also has many connotations on its own: its wannabe Galerie Lafayette, its design is wannabe les Halles, etc. and, from the passage you pasted, I think your character sounds a bit "wannabe" too :-)
