Thanks! But it got too few hits.

Agree with Weiwei.
Denyce Seow Aug 23, 2005:
I guess "eggplant-shaped" is a better term. Type "" and "eggplant-shaped" separately in Google Images. You'll see similar pictures.

FYI florence flask(跟茄形瓶不一样?)

The Latin word for florence flask is lagena, because it looks like a calabash. You can see a calabash at the link below. See the link wit florence flask at 'name derivation'. It is a Curcurbit. The eggplant/aubergine is not a curcurbit. Further the shape of the calabash is similar to that of the florence flask. But it is a different shape to that of an eggplant.(The eggplant flask should be a sort of kidney-shaped flask I think.) There are many refs to eggplant and aubergine shaped flasks on Google. (However,the ones I have seen tend to be related to perfumery, ointments, body oils etc). Apparently these are very ancient names and ancient styles of vessel still in use in labs today (interesting).

I'm still not too sure about it - strange that Florence flask had all those connections to gourds which are not so different to eggplant.

However, it seems the eggplant-type flask is not a boiling flask (as Florence is). And there was nothing on Google to connect eggplant-type and Florence.

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "I am sorry Nigel. I found it is not Florence Flask. See http://designer-drugs.com/pte/12.162.180.114/dcd/chemistry/equipment/rotavap.html the left one is the flask, but in the article it is strange that it is only called "sample flask". In Chinese usually it is called "进料茄形瓶“。 Since there is google his for "eggplant...", I think it is a good choise. Thank you all for kind help! "

neutral Stefanie Sendelbach : Sorry, but what is a begoon? // Oh, I saw you just added an explanation. Still, I would try to find another term as "begoon" is not a commonly known English word. Webster and Hyperdictionary do not list it for example. // I like "eggplant-shaped" :-)

See my explanation, thanks!

Florence Flask

I see this is a chemical question, so it's likely to be a chemical flask. It's quite likely it is a boiling flask or commonly called a florence flask, as this is exactly the shape described. See pic in link below
Peer comment(s):

neutral chica nueva : I'm not convinced this is the same flask, the shape and Latin name, lagena = calabash, don't seem right.
