I am not terribly confident of this, but if, as it seems, the Greek phrase means 'They prize the heart first', this would perhaps be the closest English equivilent.

Perhaps these verses of Thomas Moore [ob. 1852] reflect more accurately the sentiment of the Greek adage:
When Time who steals our years away
Shall steal our pleasures too,
The mem’ry of the past will stay,
And half our joys renew.

: Αgain, half the point is lost. In a desperate attempt to help Nick as well as create some rhyme, I would say "What you did last dignifies your past". But I'm afraid there is no such phrase in English, so I had to invent it.:-)))

How about, 'to make one's final impression'?//The closest that I can come up with is 'true to the end'. But you're likely right and there isn't really any corresponding English idiom.
