Non-PRO English Other Art, Arts & Crafts, Painting sideways knitting
Pattern for sideways knitting of a snowflake design sweater. Pattern orginally in the Workbook Magazine around 1998-81. Knitting is done from sleeve to sleeve with the snownflake pattern knit running from sleeve across the chest and continues to the next sleeve.

sideways knitting

It means you knit the garment horizontally rather than vertically: if it's a jersey, normally it would be from the bottom hem upwards, but in a sideways pattern the body of garment is formed from right to left.
Raglan sweaters may be knitted this way: you start at one sleeve cuff and work the sleeve, then the front, then the other sleeve, so it starts narrow, gets wide, then narrow again.
