waive a requirement for a period of living separate
I do not quite understand the meaning of this sentence. It appears in a divorce decree. Does it mean that both parties waive to continue living together for at least two years?? Can you please explain the meaning to me and give a possible translation??

En muchos países, para poder divorciarte, antes tienes que pasar una temporada con el estatus de separación que se consigue, entre otros, con la separación de domicilios (los dos cónyuges viven por separado). En España, p.ej., hasta hace poco el requisito de separación fue obligatorio. Pero, por lo que se ve, en algunos países los cónyuges pueden decidir que no quieren pasar por este periodo de separación y, eso creo, pasar directamente a tramitar el divorcio.
El periodo de separación debe servir para reflexionar y para que la pareja todavía pueda reconciliarse.
