Science
Science (general)
Ideological subversion
Here's the paragraph in which it occurs (and it does not recur in
the text):
Философы и науковеды считают, что по-настоящему творческий ум есть почти всегда ум отрицательный.
I suspect it means something like "historians of science", but I can't find the
word in Multitran.ru or lingvo.yandex.ru (except in a single sentence given as an example of usage).

those who study the world of science
Multitran does give a definition for науковедение, "research on research" or "science of science." There is a similar word, страноведение, which is "country studies" or "regional geography."
I think науковедение is broader than just history of science, though surely that is a big component--hence my suggested translation.

science studies scholars or, just for the context, 'science psychologists'
The English language may just be surviving without a word serving an exact equivalent of "науковед".
Consider these definitions: http://ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/Науковедение
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psychology_of_science
However, the phrase "science studies scholars" from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Science_studies may just convey the concept.
All that said, in you context of "ум" you may do fine with "science psychologists".
