Just a question about the K.600 here. Can that directly be translated to 600-grit or is the German "K" different to the US "-grit".

It's 600 grit in the US. I looked it up in a Chilton repair manual for confirmation. A look at .uk web sites suggest that it's the same in the UK (but I'm not a reliable source for that).
