: Mendicutti uses the expression in an interview: http://www.map.es/gobierno/muface/v179/perfil.htm Here is seems to mean simply "of the other type". Further hits for "de la otra cuerda" all point to being "on the other side" .//Yr distinction valid!!

I would say there is a subtle difference, though. "Not one of us" could be an innate condition, whereas "belonging to the other side" could be a matter of choice.
