This is the title of an article about a city, and the word "vicina" is used throughout the text.

My client suggested using "in touch", but it doesn't always work - e.g. in the phrase "Appena scendi dall’aereo già la intravedi, è la città ed è così “vicina”!
"Close" is the best I can come up with, but it sounds awful in some sentences. Does anybody have a better suggestion?

I think "approachable" might fit most of the contexts you mention. Or if you use the "friendly" option maybe "user-friendly" might be more fitting.
