XXXX le permite también escoger el protocolo de subasta holandesa inversa (o simplemente holandesa), que consiste en que el precio se incrementa periódicamente de forma automática hasta que algún supplier decide parar el incremento y adjudicarse una cierta cantidad. La holandesa finaliza, bien cuando la cantidad total en subasta ya ha sido adjudicada, o bien cuando se alcanza el precio de cierre preestablecido por el buyer, en cuyo caso, la cantidad que resta sin adjudicar se declara “desierta”.

I think in this case it means 'void' but wish to make sure. TIA

yes, you are right... the remaining amount will not be awarded... I would definitely NOT use "deserted"... Orellana's glossary lists the specific context of declaring a prize or call for tenders "desierto" and she calls it "void"
