French term

Naître célibataires et mariées

This is an extract from a company’s bylaws, so “célibataires et mariées” must have a special meaning in this context.. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
(Only the company’s name, address and legal status are indicated at the beginning of the document).

@ Stéphanie Agree, this does not seem to be about individuals.

Stephanie makes an excellent point

What country is this from? There are no individual names mentioned anywhere? Just some questions as food for thought...
Stéphanie Soudais Mar 21, 2010:
Maybe one should read "elles sont nées célibataires et (sont maintenant) mariées". In French it is quite common to say that two companies are getting married when they merge.

They have the maiden, unmarried and married names as indicated

This may be a reference to the the names in the preamble.
Peer comment(s):

agree gail desautels : yes, that their maiden and married names are as indicated on the top of the document

Thanks!
disagree B D Finch : A maiden name is the same as an unmarried name.//The original name, where there had been a legal name change not because of marraige, would be the the "birth name" or "name at birth".

Not if one of the parties is a male or if the unmarried name is different from the maiden name (after a change?)

birth and vital statistics status are as indicated...

Could possibly be referring to the details of the parties involved (such as place and date of birth, and whether they are single or married). One idea might be to use an option as above, and flag it to the client as it is a bit strange.

It seems very strange to me for an official document to refer to a legal entity as being "born" or "unmarried."
