élan de communion

French to English Bus/Financial Business/Commerce (general)
I am translating a survey about wine drinking habits and it includes various questions which I think are designed to categorise respondents. One of these asks respondents to agree or disagree with various statements, one of which is "J'aime partager de grands élans de communion avec un grand nombre de gens". I am struggling with "élans de communion" and would like to steer clear of literal translations.

oh dear!! I had understood this to be about people's wine-drinking habits, and that this was a respondent's answer to one of the questions! But I can see now that it's supposed to be one of the "affirmations"!

This would rule out all but the first of my suggestions, on the grounds of register

No connection with wine I should add for Glen's sake that there is no connection here with the wine drinking habits that are dealt with elsewhere in the questionnaire.

The "affirmation" The "affirmation" is "J'aime partager de grands élans de communion avec un grand nombre de gens", which appears in a list of many other "affirmations", such as "Rien ne compte plus pour moi que de partager des moments forts avec ma famille" and "Je préfère les gens qui ne se sentent pas obligés d'être toujours comme les autres et qui ont une certaine originalité de vêtement ou d'allure"

holy @ Glen if that were the case (and we really DO need the actual "affirmation" here), then how would you interpret "élan" in that context?

Context I'm not sure the question is any help here, but here it is: Pour chacune des affirmations suivantes, indiquez si elle correspond tout à fait, plutôt, plutôt pas, ou pas du tout à ce que vous-même faites ou pensez.

well, I started off with "drive", but worked away from the literal - which the Asker is trying to avoid - to st more idiomatic that, hopefully, also isn't too inaccurate. But knowing the actual question would help...
neutral Glen McCulley : 'drive' = a whist drive?! bash is heavily outdated, as is 'do'. event, maybe, but there's nothing of the 'élan', nor the 'communion' there... sorry carol

Oh dear, a Whist Drive hadn't occurred to me - now that would be outdated.. :O)). I was thinking more in the sense of a publicity drive/stunt .The communion is of course the "socialising" bit, as in the other Answerer's "fraternity" (presumably)

The spontaneous aspect might cover the 'élan' part of the French.

My translation would be 'I'm the type that likes to take part in group happenings'. But I realize I've condensed the original. And 'partager' means 'share', but you cannot really share a happening.

E.g. I like to share a special rapport with a large group of people. OR
I like the feeling of intimate fellowship etc.
