Hi,

Again, it's the same sentence from the Iran Centre textbook, which teaches a rather literary Persian, though perhaps this particular sentence is more colloquial:

امیدوارم که شما هم حرفهایم را به منظور بد نگرفته باشید

هم usually means "too, also", but I'm not sure if that meaning fits here. What exactly is the role it plays in the sentence, please?

For the sake of comparison/discussion, here is another sentence where I'm not quite sure of the meaning of هم:

اگر سر ساعت هم برسید باز مجبور نیستیم شما را همراه ببریم

But maybe I'm wrong and there's a straightforward explanation I can't see.

In the above two sentences by Simon هم has not been used to add something rather it has been used to put emphasis on what already said. This emphatic factor is more apparent in the second sentence. To me it is something like the role of "even" in the term "even if". In the first sentence it can mean "either" "also" or "too" but in the second sentence it can be equated with "even" and accompany the word "if" and hence form "even if" which is apparently an emphatic form.

for negative sentences like the one you mentioned we can say: I hope are not offended by my words either.
if the sentence is positive we can apply "too". as for the second sentence you offered we use "even if". "even if we arrive on time we dont have to take you with us."
