Tech/Engineering - Transport / Transportation / Shipping / Design, Architecture of Rail System

Should the term "Arquitectura" no ser quizas "design" in English referring to the VEGA system? (Or some other word as design is used referring to the "arquitectura")

architecture
Explanation:
See definition 5 below. It means the same as design, but if it says architecture in Spanish, you might as well use the same word in English.

"Diseño de arquitectura" at the end is a tautology - you should use either word, but not both.

Notes to answerer
Asker: I find architecture a rather strange term for a programme for a rail system Phil, as architecture usually refers to constructions, i.e. buildings not rail systems, you no?

Asker: As I said Henry, too many technicians using our language wrongly, so I opt for the right to "pataleo" nothing more to be said, I accept the dictators but under protest :-0((

Asker: Si Señor, a sus ordenes Señor, I was not aware that being a translator took our rights away from us too!! I was simply looking for an ACCEPTABLE SYNONYM!! You could always ignore my comments in the future of course Phil couldn't you?

plan

Explanation:
You certainly have the right idea in mind.

But, since we have "diseño de arquitectura" I would opt for "plan" then in this case we would have the plan design.

Also, in Orellana (Glosario internacional) "plan" is an option for "arquitectura"

(overall) structure

Explanation:
All right, guess I will pose this an alternative answer. Architecture in this context just seems an unnecessarily fancy word for the overall structure of a program, a bit of self-aggrandizement for a very functional thing on the part of the writer IMO. And I would say that many texts in Spanish are very prone to that.
It does depend on context, though, somewhat on who the intended reader is and also whether estructura is also used in the text. If not, I think structure or overall structure is perfectly clear and understandable.

Reference information:
If we were setting out to build a home, we would first lay out the floor plans, grouping each room by function and placing structural items within each room according to their best utility. This is not an arbitrary process – it is architecture. Moving from home design to IT system design does not change the process. Grouping data and processes into information systems creates the rooms of the system architecture. Arranging the data and processes for the best utility is the result of deploying an architecture. Many of the attributes of building architecture are applicable to system architecture. Form, function, best use of resources and materials, human interaction, reuse of design, longevity of the design decisions, robustness of the resulting entities are all attributes of well designed buildings and well designed computer systems. [1]

In general, architecture is a set of rules that defines a unified and coherent structure consisting of constituent parts and connections that establish how those parts fit and work together. Architecture may be conceptualized from a specific perspective focusing on an aspect or view of its subject. These architectural perspectives themselves can become components in a higher–level architecture serving to integrate and unify them into a higher–level structure.

The architecture must define the rules, guidelines, or constraints for creating conformant implementations of the system. While this architecture does not specify the details on any implementation, it does establish guidelines that must be observed in making implementation choices. These conditions are particularly important for component architectures that embody extensibility features to allow additional capabilities to be added to previously specified parts. [2] This is the case where Data Management is the initial deployment activity followed by more complex system components.

By adopting a system architecture motivation as the basis for the IT Strategy, several benefits result:

I do not know the exact reason for the term being used only in the IT-systems industry (besides the classical sense). But a very good reason is expounded above, and I do not see why it should not be acceptable here as well.

Besides, in this particular case, they seem to refer to the computer (both hard and software) and how to set up the system to work, so it is "Arquitectura de sistemas", thus "Systems architecture".

Note to reference poster
Asker: Thank you psicutrinius, it seems that these technicians are destroying our English language, I will have to accept it but I still "opto por el derecho de pataleo!!" :-0))
