English term

by return of post

English to French Bus/Financial Business/Commerce (general) achat de bateau

La société a écrit: The down-payment of Euro 10.000,= must be paid before or at the 8th of October 2012 by return of post by means of a (telephone) bank transfer or a cash deposit on bank account number ....

Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

Non-PRO (2): Tristan Jimenez, GILLES MEUNIER

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

Discussion

Finn Skovgaard (X) Oct 5, 2012:
Agree I agree with Tony M and CatherineDC. There is a problem in the original text. If there is not enough time to clarify such questions with the client, I add a note to the client when returning the translation, explaining the problem, telling them 'if you meant A, then use 'blah', or if you meant B, then omit 'blah'.
Tony M Oct 1, 2012:
@ Magali I agree with you and Catherine — it very much looks as if this phrase got left in after editing; perhaps at some point in the past, cheque payment might have been used, or elsewhere in the contract other documents have to be returned.

Since a specific date is given, and no posting is involved, it seems to make no sense at all; it would be best to check with the customer, but I'd certainly consider simply leaving it out.
Catherine De Crignis Oct 1, 2012:
