As I understand it precisely Anybody to whom children are "entrusted" whoever gets custody. You might find a shorter wording than mine, but obviously "children in custody" won't work.

It would seem that whoever has custody of the children (their own and maybe others..) that they get this allowance/credit. They do not necessarily have to be blood dependents?
What do you think?

It is a tax return and the section is related to Dependents. So the client is filling in the boxes that follow the titles.

Sounds right?!! Kelly when I do financial translations with literally tens of billions changing hands on the basis of them, I make sure I find out exactly what is happening (Financial language generally sounds pretty ugly anyway). Can't you give any more of the Italian text?

Don't know what it means ! More context please K I can't make sense of it. 100% deduzione makes perfect sense, deduct all from taxable income, but do deduct the whole payment received for fostering from your tax bill, doesn't make sense.

tax credit Yes Jim that's a much better way of putting it. Why don't you post it? Only possible grip with tax credits is that they now refer to a Byzantine form of benefit in the UK.

A "detrazione" is a direct deduction from the tax bill, while in English the word deductions is used for deductions from taxable income. In the UK an "allowance" means you don't pay any tax on for example the first £10,000. In Italian the "detrazioni" are usually lump sums detracted from the total tax bill like €200 for each child. In this sense they are like tax credits.
