Course content:

The College offers courses for seafaring marine engineers at Chief Engineer (III/2) level to cover the following examinable subject areas:

Professional Subjects

Engineering Knowledge 'General'
Engineering Knowledge 'Motor'
Engineering Knowledge 'Steam'

It may be possible to gain the knowledge required for the examinations by attending part programmes throughout the academic year.
Assessment procedure:

The current method of assessment is by external examination prepared by SQA on behalf of the Maritime & Coastguard Agency.

Candidates must pass all elements of the Engineering Knowledge examinations and within three years also pass their MCA Oral Examination*. The candidate will then be awarded the Certificate of Competency.

Written examination papers are of three hours duration.

* Please note: All candidates must be in possession of an MCA Notice of Eligibility to apply for either the oral or the SQA examinations.
Entry requirements:

To study this course, you should have:

Second Engineer (III/2) or equivalent Certificate of Competency
The necessary sea service to apply for a Notice of Eligibility
