русский term

цереброастенические состояния

русский => английский Медицина Медицина (в целом) Neurology and child development
A journal article talking about nootropic substances for the treatment of ADHD in children.

The full sentence is: "Ноотропные средства...широко используются во взрослой пратике и нейрогериатрии при терапии...коматозных состояний, депрессивных и цереброастениских состояний."

I am wondering whether "cerebroasthenic conditions" is a real term in English, because it doesn't come up much in internet searches.
Proposed translations (английский)
3 +1 neurasthenic conditions
4 +1 cerebro-asthenic syndrome

Sofia Gutkin (asker) Jan 22, 2013:
Thank you for your help Well, I ended up using the term "cerebro-asthenic" since I didn't know what else to use. Thank you Jack and Nevaeva for providing references, they assuaged my fears somewhat.
Jack slep Jan 21, 2013:
You can also find its definition in volume 3 of the Russian "Encyclopedic Dictionary of Medical Terms," Izd. Sovet. Entsiklopedia, Moscow, 1984.

Better tell these authors they're using words that don't exist.

there is no such a diagnosis, or condition as "cerebral astenic". it is backwardness of the russian medicine that "shines through"...
sorry.
Jack slep Jan 21, 2013:
As Jurate and Navaeva point out, the term does exist as indicated in the references. Because it's not "English" doesn't mean there is no such thing. New words are "invented" daily. We now have commonly used Russian words such as sputnik, cosmonaut, and Vernadsky's noosphere. And in the fields of soil science and ecology, most words are of Russian origin. Don't be afraid to use new words...

Thank you, but the article is originally in Russian, which makes me wonder if it has simply been transliterated into English.
