English term

his manner had hardened to meet opposition

English to Hungarian Art/Literary Poetry & Literature
He also records an impression which has struck other ob¬servers of Wilde's conversation, though usually less emphat¬ically. His manner "had hardened to meet opposition, and at times he allowed one to see an unpardonable insolence." But, in fact, it was only during Oscar's period of arrogant pros¬perity that this became really evident, and it was certainly very unjust of Yeats to say that "his charm was acquired and systematized, a mask which he wore only when it pleased him." It was part of Wilde's real nature to behave consider¬ately and courteously.

ellentmondás hallatán modora érdesebbé vált
