W opracowaniu skupiono się na ujawnieniu przyczyn pojawienia się psychicznej niemocy u głównych bohaterów filmów Wstręt, Dziecko Rosemary oraz Lokator. *Idąc tropem definicji* autorstwa, autorskiego stylu oraz biografii Polańskiego zbadano w jakim stopniu osoba reżysera wpływa na odbiór i interpretację treści swoich dzieł. Umieszczono również rozdział dotyczący przewijającego się motywu szaleństwa w prywatnym życiu polskiego reżysera.
