Discussion

sktrans (asker) Dec 8, 2013:
Dear Liz,
As you know I had proposed the term " withdrawal" in my first discussion post. However, as I did further research and inquired from a cardiologist of my acquaintance, the term most commonly used in the US (my intended readership- sorry, forgot to mention it in my question) is pullback.
Again, thank you for your help on this occasion and others. Cheers.

Thank you all. The term is "pull back" > I've learned something today.

With a slight difference, retraction is not withdrawal, it implies the device is still in place for further examination IMO.
Nikki Scott-Despaigne Dec 5, 2013:
Ah, maybe it is withdrawal, retraction after all. I think more context woudl be helpful. Well, it would help me anyway! ;-)
Nikki Scott-Despaigne Dec 5, 2013:
If this is about telediastolic pressure and left-ventricle/aortic pressure gradient, the clue being in the millimetric unit of pressure measurement (mm Hg) millimetre of mercury, then I doubt this means "withdrawal" but is more likely to be in the sense of reduction. http://books.google.fr/books?id=f9I-AgAAQBAJ&pg=PA32&lpg=PA3...

Is it simply "withdrawal"?

http://circ.ahajournals.org/content/71/6/1162.abstract

We therefore obtained simultaneous Doppler echocardiographic and catheter measurements of pressure gradient in 100 consecutive adults (mean age 69, range 50 to 89 years). In 63 patients pressure measurements were obtained with dual-catheter techniques and in 37 they were obtained by withdrawal of the catheter from the left ventricle to the ascending aorta.
