inglés term

To close the month down by

inglés al español Negocios/Finanzas Finanzas (general)
Hi

For some reason I am doubting about the meaning of the sentence below.

After an almost flat start of the New Year, equity markets entered into a
“correction mood” with the MSCI World Index (GBP) closing the month down
by more than 3.1%.

Does the above sentence mean that the MSCI World Index had a decrease of more than 3.1%?

Thanks a lot for any help.

cerraron el mes con una baja

del 3.1%. En este caso, cerrar no es literal, es sinónimo de "terminar" o "concluir"
