I have no idea of the proper name of this, I can only think of 'pound', but judicial or legal pound doesn't quite sound right and neither appears on Google in the context. Thanks :)

Discussion

Mario Freitas Mar 8, 2014:
Ambiguous, but when it comes to legal terms, ambiguity may cause trouble. Deposito is one of these "dangerous" words.
Adrian MM. (X) Mar 8, 2014:
Not wrong - just ambiguous Equivocal for a storage area, a payment into court - or even a pigeon perching and dropping something onto the judge's head.
AllegroTrans Mar 8, 2014:
Inclined to agree with others that the Spanish term is wrong - bu we must translate in context (maybe Asker should make a translator's note/point this out to the client)

XXXX, XXXX Court Storage Facility / Area

There are a few instances of these on Google, some referring to storage of documents, others to storage of goods, such as you have here.

Judicial Deposit

Judicial deposits are:
Those that are established to fulfil guarantees, bails, cautions or other procedural requirements as established by law.
Those that are made as a result of the intervention, seizure or confiscation of coins, bank notes, bank cheques or marketable securities, carried out by the Security Forces, by Customs Surveillance or by any other public officer, making them available to the competent judicial authority.
Any deposit that takes place as a result or as insurance of the seizure of goods and that of the amounts that may be found while legal proceedings are underway.

disagree AllegroTrans : No, this is about storage of aircraft wreckage (i.e. as evidence)

español term (edited): Depósito Judicial vs. depósito judicial

(collection point) Court's Own Pound vs. (security for costs) payment into court

Watch the initital caps v lower case distinction.

Some courts do indeed run guarded pounds where real = tangible evidence can be stored and, hopefully, kept safe from pilferers.
Peer comment(s):

neutral AllegroTrans : ?? what's all the security for costs nonsense about ??// but this is the wreckage of an aircraft - surely just evidence (for examination by parties/experts?)

You tell me: see my web ref.//No it's a place and other respondents are just rewording the first part of my answer: hasta el Depósito Judicial de XXX (XXX)
neutral Mario Freitas : Same mistkae I made, Tom. It's about a physical place of storage: a warehouse. It's wrong in Spanish, too.

I am afraid my answer is being misread. With initial caps, it IS a physical pound. Otherwise, in LOWER casing, it is ambiguous for a payment into court. I am mystified why this distinction is so hard to grasp.
neutral MollyRose : Your submission would probably have been understood better if you had only put the first 5 words in the Answer and the rest, starting with "vs." under the Explanation. That way, the Answer would be more conformed to the Term.

Thank you, Teresa!
neutral AllegroTrans : it's not about depositing anything "into" court but about safe storage

Right! I only realized it after I posted. This would be the translation for a court deposit (in the bank).
