metropolitan business license

I think a more literal translation sounds odd.

Unique metropolitan license for the operation of establishments and activities

A lot of the time 'unica' gets translate as 'single' but I think for a license 'unique' is the more appropriate term.

I think it's possible that the above phrase has never actually been translated before so a direct reference might not exist.

Peer comment(s):

neutral Billh : Unico is bit of a false friend. It usually means sole or single. The idea here is that it is a single license covering operating license and activity license. It may be unique but I doubt it.

Bill, you're right but I though this might be a specific example where it could be used. I'd go for sole over single. Although single license seems to refer to PC's and sole license to intellectual property law

Exclusive metropolitan permit for facility operation and activities

Suggestion
Peer comment(s):

neutral Billh : I don't think exclusive is the word here....

Well, Bill, "única" in this case does mean it excludes any other license and it's the only one applicable, therefore "exclusive" in the sense of excluding all others.
neutral Rebecca Lammons : I think "exclusive" wrongly gives the idea that this is a special business license/permit, as in one that has been given specifically to this business and no other, when I think that it's just a regular city permit.

Same explanation, Rebecca. It's exclusive of all other purposes and of all other permits. Notice the other suggestions either translated the term "única" incorrectly (unique) or simply purged it from the stretch. I prefer to keep the original term.

City Permit for Business Operations and Activities

I would tend to omit the "única" as I don't think it conveys a lot of meaning here.
