Discussion

Domini Lucas Aug 24, 2018:
@neilmac Apologies that I wasn’t clear! I totally agree re the use of ‘safe space’. I put neutral rather than “agree” as I wanted to agree with your mention ‘safe space’ but not the rest as I had an alternative of my own which I feel is not exactly the same as yours. If you mean my general discussion comment, you are right that I now feel conflicted. Since submitting my answer I have been mulling it over and over and feel that perhaps there isn’t enough context/background provided. Some of us (including me) have offered more ‘therapeutic’ suggestions. I therefore wanted to flag up to @Lydianette that, before choosing an answer, if she opts for a more ‘therapeutic one’ it is important to be sure that the context demands it and that it is 100% accurate. If this comment is still confusing am happy to withdraw. I would have amended one of the notes accompanying my original answer but the system didn’t allow it which led to discussion entries and possible confusion.
Domini Lucas Aug 24, 2018:
re PTSD My comment on this was purely because different past counselling colleagues have suggested different approaches for PTSD. Some have advocated that certain therapeutic interventions can be unhelpful. I have heard others disagree. I was a trained listener (Chaplain) not a counsellor so am not advocating one approach over another. I am just flagging up that, before deciding which option to use, @asker may want to check (or may already know) whether therapy is involved in the source context or it is purely provision of a ‘safe space’ to ‘be’. If active ‘therapy’ is involved or implied, then it will be even more important to choose the right term. If no therapy, a less therapeutic term might be better.

nurturing space

Hi Lydianette. I'm offering this idea, but I actually think your own "space for emotional relief" would probably work okay here. It does seem to be the idea of the paragraph.
In fact, I think it might even be rendered as a "safe space", but that term is so charged now that you need to be careful not to run the risk of parody.
Peer comment(s):

agree Muriel Vasconcellos : It works in better with the rest of the context.

Thanks, Muriel.
neutral Domini Lucas : agree re safe space as we used it a lot in Chaplaincy work.

Thanks, Domini. I agree that it's a possibility, but with the reservation I've expressed.

emotional outlet

"Emotional outlet" is another option. I attached some examples and the definition, which I think fits "desahogo emocional". Hope it helps!

space for emotional reset

Emotional reset is a term used in therapy.
Example sentence:

Suppose you take action now and decide to book an Emotional Reset session.

How can you adjust and change your emotional responses? There are many therapies available. Some include counseling, bringing back situations from the past, how you feel currently etc. With Emotional Pattern Reset, your neurological system tells us what n

space for discharging emotions

or emotional discharge

Though I prefer the option in title if fits with structure of asker’s translation.

You will need to google “Emotional Therapy means Emotional Discharge” as article in web reference I have given to reach specifically relevant article. I am afraid I am travelling and unable to offer a more direct link to specfic article via Ipad.

if you google “Emotional Discharge” there are other psychology articles as well. I have to add that, despite my preference, “emotionsl discharge” is the commonly used phrase.

I also think that, unless counselling /therapy is actually intended, your own ‘relief’ might be fine as you say the context is International Development, not Psychotherapy and your link implies PTSD may be involved.

(safe) space for emotional release

An option. "Safe space" is a kind of current buzzword in the touchy-feely area.

"...but above all to create an emotional release space from the stress..."

Robert reckons "safe spaces" may have now become a figure of parody, but I feel the same way about "relief", which runs the risk of incurring the dreaded "fnarr, fnarr" or "Benny Hill" factor :-)

If we're going to bandy figures about, "emotional realrease" gets over half a million hits.
