Spanish term

"Lo llevo en el alma"

Non-PRO Spanish to English Art/Literary Idioms / Maxims / Sayings
Full phrase: "Me siento orgulloso de presidir una institución que fomenta las artes en barrios como este. Le digo, la llevo en el alma".
(Idiom/common saying during a short interview about his life. Spoken, not written)

Hi all, I was wondering if there is an exact idiom matching this one. The speaker (Cuban - Director of an institution) uses this phrase to express how fond he is of the institution, that he loves it dearly - "I carry it in my soul."

I find no idiom matching it, and it's very common in Spanish...

Also, I believe in English it would be more natural to use "heart".

So my try would be something like "I'm telling you, It's in my heart" // "I'm telling you, I carry it in my heart".

I carry it in my soul

It's ok to translate as "i carry it in my soul". There are plenty of examples :

But, father Coll carried the communityin his soul, and nobody could take it away from him.
There are many experiences very personal, and also collective, which cannot be put down in writing, which are carried in the soul.

The sentence should rather be, **"I hope you can believe in my project; it is close to my heart."**

Note from asker:
Thank you Muriel! This is the type of expression I was looking for (I'm new in ProZ and thought I had to grade every comment, so I started by the first.) I was discouraged by the small amount of hits I got from them in Google, which I normally use as a hint of usage. I chose it for the glossary :) I didn't change the beginning of the sentence, though; I wanted to keep the candid tone. Best, Debbie

It's close to my heart

Alternative: It's in my heart and soul.
Note from asker:
Thank you, Martin! I really liked the alternative. Sounds passionate, as this speaker is. Now I reasearched it, I see it in several speeches of people talking passionately about their work, together with expressions like "(this town) is in my DNA". Sounds perfect for this context. Cheers!
